The guiding principle for Emmi in 2017 was “We are proactive and not afraid of hard work!” Projects reflecting this were entered in the annual Sustainability Competition. Employees at our London office decided on a physical fitness programme to ensure they were able to tackle the challenges of the food industry with even greater vigour. The project won third place in the 2017 Sustainability Competition.

To operate successfully, a company needs employees who tackle challenges in a courageous, open and proactive manner. Emmi’s motto in 2017 was therefore “We are proactive and not afraid of hard work!”. The team at Emmi UK in London put this idea into physical practice, focusing on having a healthier lifestyle overall and holistic well-being.

Over the course of a year, they took on various challenges to improve personal relationships and collaboration within the team. Many of them addressed their individual lifestyles and the role that exercise played here.

Although activities were voluntary, participation was high at up to 85 % of employees. One-third of Emmi employees in London tackled the toughest test – taking part in the “Tough Mudder Challenge”. In the end, 90 % of employees said that their health had improved.

The jury of the Emmi Sustainability Prize – headed by WWF Switzerland – awarded this project third place in part because the focus of the efforts was on employees.
